Pardon the Interruption

As I went to upload my photos for today's Remember When Wednesday post (even though it's now Thursday) I was informed that my Picasa account is full and that I must purchase additional space to upload more photos.

This may show my ignorance when it comes to blogging, but I didn't even know that copies of my pictures from the blog were being saved on Picasa.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Is there a way around it or should I cough up the money for a subscription?  Is there another way you upload photos to your blog?
The subscription isn't that much but at the moment, it is more the principal of the matter.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and could really use some advice on this one!  On the bright side, I did learn that I have posted 522 pictures on this blog over the course of my 200 posts though.

Once I figure this out, I'll be back later today with your regular scheduled programming.

  2. I'm guessing your photos are pretty large files. How many MB does it say your album is for your blog? It should say this if you click on the album in Picasa and look to the far right- right after the number of photos. I have over 700 photos in my blog album and it's only 203 MB. I also have probably close to 1500 other photos in various albums, and have not yet received the "you're full" message. Scroll to the bottom when you're in Picasa.. it will say something like "You're currently using 466 MB of you 1024 MB storage." 1024 MB = 1 GB. That's typically a lot of space for web photos. One way you can save space is to upload photos that you have "saved to web" in photoshop instead of just uploading from your camera. This compresses the file and saves space. Personally I'm not going to upgrade until I have to... but it might be less of a pain in the ass for you to just do it now instead of going back to compress your images and reuploading them. Or you could get a photobucket account and start loading pics from there! Hope this makes sense and helps :)

  3. I have a family blog for grandparents, etc. I load pictures of my kids for events, holidays, etc...sort of the best of the best.

I lost the hard drive that stored all of my pictures, and if it weren't for the fact that blogger saved the pictures on picasa...which someone told me...I would have lost so many memories....

Download them onto a CD and start fresh.

  4. I hit my limit a couple months ago and paid $20 for a huge upgrade. I think most of the bloggers who use a lot of high-res photos store their photos on FTP sites but it does cost money to store large amounts of photos anyone online. I'm looking into different hosting options to see what it will cost me. Right now I'm just using google. I'm not willing to use low-res photos just to have more space.

  5. If you can get to your picasa web album, you can delete some. I stumbled across my own album and realized I had duplicates of some photos.

I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for visiting my site, commenting, and following my blog!

    Happy Thursday!

  6. What a bummer! I host some of my photos on Photobucket.com. It's also free but I'm not sure if there's a space limit. It does have some editing tools like Picasa, but I haven't used them a whole lot so I'm not sure how great they work. Hope you're able to figure something out!

  7. How annoying, this is how they "get" you! My friend has several blogs on blogger and they said she had used too much space so she had to pay now. What? Not sure a way around it, hmm...

  9. I resize mine before uploading. I always worry that a warning will pop up and say I have no more space. esp. since you've seen how many darn pix I upload! Keep me posted if you find anything out? I want to know more too!!!

  10. Thank you for all of your comments and encouragement!

I am trying out Photobucket for a few days (the free version) while I decide which I like better: Blogger/Picasa or Photobucket. Both yearly subscriptions are about equal in cost so it's just a matter of figuring out which works better for me and for the blog :)

I'll be sure to let you know what I decide!

  11. I'd recommend paying for a yearly Flickr account - $24.95 for unlimited uploads. I love it!!

  12. I got the same message a few months ago and went through and weeded out several pictures that were not being used for my blog. I recently have gotten the message again as I hit my limit and upgraded for $5 on Google. I should be good to go for quite some time now.

  13. Mine if my connection was slow I reduce the size of my upload photos but if my connection was fast, I upload into HD setting.
