The BBC

I'd like to try something new on the blog and am hoping that there are a few others out there who might want to try this with me.  The "this" I am referring to is a book club, but a Bloggers Book Club or BBC (hence the title of this post).

Hopefully, how it would work is each person would read the book selected for that month (which we would all vote and agree upon ahead of time through a poll on the blog) and then four weeks later, we would discuss the book through a myriad of ways: comments on the blog post itself, link-ups where people can write blog posts sharing their own thoughts on the book and link back and email groups where we can all email each other and dish about the book.   How you share can vary from month to month, so don't feel like if one month you comment on the blog post that you can't be part of the link ups or the email groups!  My hope is that the subject matter and genre of books will vary from month to month so that we can encourage each other to get out of our reading comfort zone (who knows, we might discover a new favorite or two!)

Because we all have different schedules and obligations, I'd like everyone to have a window of a week to post, comment and share instead of trying to find one afternoon that works for everyone to discuss, like a traditional book club.  And the best part of this nontraditional book club: you can be a part of the book club without leaving the comfort of our home/office/whatever and you can participate at your leisure!  I know those were two big reasons why I never kept up with book clubs I've joined in the past.

What we will get to do like traditional book clubs is read some great books that we might not have picked up and read on our own (but are so glad we did), learn more about each other and make some new friends!  You don't have to have a blog to participate--the only thing required is that you read the book, share with the BBC members in some way and have fun.  And of course, like any book club, you can opt in (and opt out) at any time!

I am working on a button for you to take and share and there will be space on the blog devoted to the BBC (under The Library page of course!)  Each month I will list what book we are reading and who is participating (with links back to your blog), so if you are interested in participating, please leave a comment below or email me at ktrefinishingschool [at]gmail[dot]com with at least one book suggestion to get us going.  Then I'll tally them up and get a poll started so we can vote on our first book club book, with the goal of beginning the sharing phase of the club on March 10th, one month from today.

Who's with me?  All are welcome in this place!

Update:  If you can't think of a book suggestion, don't let that stop you from joining in--we will figure something out!

  1. This is such a cute idea! I'm not sure if I can make the time, but I'll try. I want to read all the Jane Austen books (it's on my life list, haha), so I want to recommend Sense and Sensibility. :)

  2. This sounds like fun! I love finding new books, so I would be interested in this kind of thing!! (I just hope I have time to read for leisure!!!)

Great idea- it's not everyday you find friends who still like to read books for fun (with real pages!!)

  5. I would definitely be interested. New books are always on the 'must have' list, and it's sometimes hard for me to find ones that I want to read!

  6. I am down. I found your blog on the Book Lovers group on FTLOB. I am so glad someone wants to do this! I am looking forward to it!

Has anyone ever read Gabrielle Garcia Marquez -- I have heard both 100 Years of Solitude and Love in the Time of Cholera are both great.

  7. I love this idea. I saw the post for your first book, but honestly, I don't like Jane Austen and I'm in the middle of a few books right now. I'd really like to participate next time though!
