I realized I forgot to share this little change-up I did in our bathroom on Monday night when I was "shopping" for our Valentine's Day table setting.
I came across two blue bottles I had purchased last year and brought them upstairs to add to my little vignette on our windowsill in the bathroom.
I filled two of the bottles with medicinal items like q-tips and little sponges and hope to fill the third with sand (ideally from this place) when we get the chance.
A minor change, but one still worth noting, right?

Sam's Club Salad
On Wednesday night after work J and I ventured out to Sam's Club. As I've blogged about before, J and I like to buy dry goods there in bulk (pasta, rice and so forth) because we go through it on a fairly regular basis and have found they are cheaper than the grocery store since we are buying in bulk.
This time we decided to pick up a few more things, some of which I made into a salad for lunch yesterday. They included:
Homemade oil and vinegar dressing, a head of artisan lettuce, sliced onion, 2 slices of prosciutto, 10 black olives (also from Sam's Club) and one wedge of blue cheese laughing cow.
This time we decided to pick up a few more things, some of which I made into a salad for lunch yesterday. They included:
- 8 heads of artisan lettuce: Great for lunches or side dishes for dinners, we will use this all up in the next week or so. $3.98 for 30 ounces
- 1 pound of prosciutto: we love having a bacon product around to add to salads, pastas, sandwiches, risotto and eggs. Prosciutto is a great option for us because it lasts longer in our fridge than regular bacon and requires no extra cooking! $11.95 for 1 pound
- (12) 14 ounce cans of low sodium chicken stock: we use bouillon cubes often but it will be nice when we are making soups and risotto to have another alternative. $7.88 for 12 cans
- (3) DiGiornio supreme pizzas: for those quick meals when we have nothing to cook! $11.98 for 3 pizzas
- Elbow macaroni: the last few times we've bought pasta at Sam's, we have bought penne pasta. This time we decided to mix it up a bit! $4.98 for 6 pounds

Not bad for a weekday lunch, right? Do you shop at Sam's Club or Cosco? What is your favorite thing to buy there?
On the docket for later today: some easy upgrades I've made around here, including one just in time for Valentine's Day, and the recipe for my raspberry-oat muffins!

Goodwill Finds
I stopped by Goodwill on my way home from work today and ended up bringing home a few treasures I'd like to share!
The first is a ceramic owl perched on a log. I bought it for four dollars and plan to spray paint it white or punchy yellow (the color of the handles on our dresser). It reminded me a lot of the ceramic animals Sherry Petersik and Katie Bower have blogged so much about. In fact, I think my owl would fit perfectly in Baby Will's nursery!
I also grabbed two red mugs for fifty cents each with the hope to work them into our Thanksgiving and later Christmas table decorations. At the moment I'm thinking I pair them with white bowls and fun napkins.
The last addition to my shopping cart was a small green vase that I hope to fill with a fat pillar candle, again for our holiday decorations. The cost of this gem: two dollars.
So there you have it. My most recent Goodwill loot. A pretty good way to kick of a weekend if you ask me. Oh, and I had to include this photo of Woods who kept interrupting me. He hates having his picture taken but loves getting into shots he's not supposed to be in...
What do you think? Should I paint the owl? If so, what color? White or yellow? Have any of you found some great thrift store finds as of late?
Happy weekend everyone!

Easy upgrade
This weekend I made an easy upgrade to our kitchen that was long overdue. J and I have six pounds of penne pasta and ten pounds of long grain rice from Sam's Club that we have been storing somewhat precariously in our pantry. We like to buy these items in bulk for two reasons:
1) It saves us a lot of money and we consume these dried goods on a fairly routine basis.
2) It makes throwing together a quick meal, such as fried rice or fettucine alfredo, almost brainless. This is most helpful when I am exhausted from work and J is brain dead from studying and neither of us feel like cooking. This saves us from going out to eat, which in turn saves us money. A tautology, perhaps, but one that I am completely comfortable with.
Anyway, I digress. The point is we have these extremely large bags of dried goods with nowhere to put them. Until this weekend. I purchased two glass containers from Crate and Barrel, and voila! Instant upgrade!
We have already tapped into these jars twice and I can tell you that it is much easier and faster to access them off of our counter than digging through our pantry to find them. Plus, there is virtually no chance of them spilling all over the floor, which was a real possibility with our previous arrangement. Although, to be honest, Woods could probably figure out some way to spill the jars as well. Here's hoping he leaves them alone!
Psst...if the containers look familiar, it's because they made a cameo appearance in this post earlier this week. Bonus points to you if you noticed them already!
